British R&B talent MXE manages to deliver a track that’s evocative, meaningful yet groovy and fierce, quite a glorious outcome for a project that’s been steadily growing since its inception. Based in London, MXE bathe in the same holy water as fellow creatives Beyonce and Kehlani, among others, penning songs that feel relatable and emotional, packed with passion and drive.
Crowning a musical journey that saw her active from a young age as a violin enthusiast, MXE is now evolving into a full-blown vocal powerhouse, showcasing tons of songwriting prowess in the process.
Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Stay’, MXE explains: “During 2020 I went through many friendship breakups, one of which was my – at the time best friend. It was a difficult time for me as it felt like one of the loneliest years of my life, and it was the start of my self-love journey. I made a promise to myself to no longer keep people in my life who made me feel less than, regardless of whether I want them to stay.”
