As far as debut records go, ‘Sink Your Teeth in My Brain’ is mightily impressive. Expansive and nuanced, this two-track EP sees Canadian outfit Museums indulging into indie minimalism with ‘Fieldfare’, then switching to hidden psychedelia and a certain lo-fi charisma. Crucially, the distortions are all tame, yet sometimes punchy. Follow-up ‘Sink Your Teeth’ is more earthy and raw, leaving electronica behind for a healthy slice of shoegaze energy.
Ali Kouri’s lead vocals are especially relevant here, delivered with coolness and nonchalance – a character that perfectly fits the group’s overall aesthetic. Lou Raskin on guitar, Anthony Kameka on bass and Nic Barkun on drums complete a talented lineup. Hailing from Montreal, the band seems to be influenced by pretty much anything in the indie panorama of the past 20 years, but they assemble it in a witty way, refusing any genre-based categorization.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the EP, Museums explain: “It tracks a sense of nostalgia. ‘Sink Your Teeth in My Brain’ is the beginning of a never-ending story of being in-transit; moving forward, growing up, looking back, constantly changing and evolving.”
