Mortal Prophets Return with Ground-Breaking Live Album

The keen reader might remember American sonic wizard Mortal Prophets. We previously described the project as “navigating the obscure corners of rock and pop, delivering material that feels innovative and boundaries-seeking, while drenched in tradition.” Staying true to his strengths, the New York-based musician and songwriter now returns with a live album that’s all but conventional ‘The Twang Gang’.

Leaving blues-rock stylings behind, Beckmann turns his focus towards more experimental territories, crafting a record that feels artistically rich and of wide references. Mostly beatless tracks, the album features post-rock riffing and psych formulas, all drenched in abstract soundscapes and electrifying textures. It’s a way for Mortal Propehts to shift classic rock into a modern, contemporary format, one where he’s free to be who he is, letting his imagination and technical prowess run free.

Recorded live in Berlin (or so we are told), ‘The Twang Gang’ is a vivid example of the depth of field Beckmann enjoys. Championing a proudly groundbreaking artistic outlook, the American explorer is able to blend elements from different backgrounds and genres, writing material that’s authentic and original.
