Mortal Prophets gets Political on Entrancing New EP ‘The American Junkie Show’

With the American election less than a week away, the sonic genius that is John Beckmann has unleashed three thought-provoking tunes, bundled into his new EP ‘The American Junkie Show’. Performing, of course, under Mortal Prophets, John, Gerald, David, and Tom set about concocting a sonic experience that’s hazy, psychedelic, and entrancing. Thematically, well we’ll let the EP’s title speak for itself.

In true Mortal Prophets fashion, we are immediately thrown into the deep end. The record’s title track begins proceedings, and it’s a seven-minute epic that feels more like a gritty journey through America’s underbelly than a casual new song. Truly, it’s a masterful piece of work.

‘American Junkie’, though only three minutes in length, has a similar grandeur to its predecessor. As John turns the patriotic imagery of’ The Star-Spangled Banner’ on its head, he delivers a haunting vision of a nation grappling with its own ideals.

‘American Scene’ is a deeply immersive tune, and Beckmann almost talks his way through the track. Again offering a sharp critique of American society, the song provides a polished yet raw sound that amplifies the band’s message.

‘The American Junkie Show’ is another stellar performance from Mortal Prophets. But hey, what else did you expect?
