We featured Moose Wrench on Mesmerized earlier this year, celebrating their past single ‘Not Dead Yet’ as a “raw and energetic gem that’s bound to appeal to both hardcore rock fans and those who like something a little more chilled.” We stand by our words: the Leeds-based group enjoys a wide pool of references, constantly walking the fine line between metal, punk and hard rock stylings. Furthermore, their vocal approach is rather transparent and friendly, allowing the audience to easily connect with the lyrical message.
Well, Moose Wrench are now back with their latest offering, a compelling album that takes the same title as the single previously mentioned. ‘Not Dead Yet’ is now a six-track long album (although it might also be considered an EP by some), showcasing all the fierceness and rebellious character the band has to offer. In particular, opener ‘Directionless Twat’ seems to make of the word ‘rage’ its artistic statement, something that should tell you loads about where Moose Wrench is heading towards….
Fuzzy, chaotic guitar riffs and punchy, maddening drum grooves provide the sonic backdrop for their musical explorations, often delving into complex math rock territories, other times pursuing a more straightforward hard rock path. The ambiguity between deep, scream-style vocals and lighter tones makes ‘Not Dead Yet’ a universal record. A record that’s bold, brave and well deserving of your time.
