‘Symbols’ has already become one of my favourite tunes of the year, and it was only released four days ago! Courtesy of Moontwin, a musical duo made up of singer/songwriter Maple Bee (aka Melanie Garside) and Zac Kuzmanov, the gentle folktronica track is an ethereal and serene voyage. Intricate, rich, and deeply entrancing, ‘Symbols’ has been excellently described as “a beguiling journey wrapped in a strangely cosy sense of unease”.
With Garside on vocal duties, her dreamy and soothing vocals serve as the perfect emotional anchor for the song. You feel yourself floating away at times as if you’ve been transported to an otherworldly realm of sonic bliss. Pure serenity!
Melanie and Zac were friends for many years and both lived in London. But, when Zac was forced to relocate back to Bulgaria after contracting ALS, the pair decided that it would not be the end of their musical expedition. By creating music virtually, the duo have expertly shown that their connection when it comes to songwriting simply knows no boundaries.
I have high hopes for Moontwin in the upcoming year. ‘Symbols’ has blown me away, and I just hope that we hear from this talented twosome again very soon!
