I’m starting to lose count of all the amazing acts my fellow writing partner Gabriel Mazza has introduced me to, but a name I shall always remember is Mono Martian. It’s the moniker of Norway-based drummer, singer/songwriter, and producer Jørgen Landhaug. After falling in love with his cover of Nirvana’s ‘Come As You Are‘ (featuring his daughter), we’ve been paying close attention to his work ever since.
‘In A Different Kind Of Light’ is Mono Martian’s brand new single, and it’s a tune the artist describes as “a personal anthem of letting go”. Its soundscape reflects that, with a relaxed and breezy atmosphere for the track’s entirety that sucks you in and refuses to let go. Leaving all the bells and whistles at the door, Jørgen instead opts for a clean and somewhat unfussed instrumental, allowing his delicate vocal performance to carry the song’s heartfelt message.
“There’s this relentless focus on success and a constant need to compare ourselves to others, which makes life increasingly difficult for so many,” says Jørgen. “Finding moments of peace and pause amidst all this noise is more important than ever”.
Offering three minutes of escapism, ‘In A Different Kind Of Light’ is the tune we all need right now.
