Formerly known as Prison Escapee, Long Beach creative Erik David Hidde now kickstarts a new artistic phase under the moniker Mohawk Castle. ‘Cold Beat’ is its debut effort: a curiously quirky and nuanced offering, the single finds fertile terrain in long textures and seemingly abstract beats. Steeped in leftfield hip-hop stylings and electronic flair, the track is blissful and spacious, with Mohawk Castle’s hypnotising vocals bathing in limitless reverb and delays.
A self-produced affair, ‘Cold Beat’ showcases Hidde’s musical prowess, able to break free from the mainstream and pursue truly original material. Speaking about the inspiration behind it, he explains: “‘Cold Beat’ is about not worrying about what other people think about you and creating something meaningful”.
