Mira Sthira Embraces Her Weird Self in Latest Track ‘Weird Girl’

Zoë McDonald

Shifting away from her indie guitar-based music due to an autoimmune arthritis condition, Mira Sthira, a unique artist from Maine, rediscovers herself through electronic-driven pop music, allowing her to express her raw emotions in a new light. Since the transition, the artist has been releasing tracks like ‘Weird Girl’ – a 90’s influenced, euro-pop inspired, self-empowering pop song.

Sthira’s name, which translates to “ocean strength”, guides the artist and her music career as she encourages listeners to seek inner healing and healing with nature through quirky pop songs. The fluidity of her music and the authentic emotional expression of her lyrics counterbalance the electronic instrumentation and keep her songs genuinely natural. The artist focuses on personal transformation, providing an outlet for painful emotions, while processing toxic relationships and confronting past experiences. Sthira derives inspiration for her alt-pop compositions from the likes of Grimes, while combining a storytelling style influenced by Christine and The Queens.

In ‘Weird Girl’, Sthira embraces the power of weirdness and authenticity. In her words, the song “is about embracing your inner middle schooler and letting go of feeling awkward, out of place and just reclaiming “weird” as something wonderful again”. Through sonic experimentation and unconventional production choices, Sthira’s synth-driven track has an alternative edge, as her smooth round vocals glide over rigid rhythmic patterns.
