Brought to us by the good folks at Cwtch Records, British outfit Minimum Wage is a worthy discovery. Pursuing a cathartic path down alt-rock and indie with a distinctively eclectic outlook, the group manage to be quite evocative and emotional in their songwriting, yet packing their tracks with punchy guitar tones and rioting drum grooves.
‘Under The Influence’ is Minimum Wage’s latest single, the perfect evidence of what is written above. Blending slick musical prowess with fierce and anthemic vocals, the record takes a rather dramatic and emo turn, featuring spoken words and the occasional screamy bit. It’s a pleasure to listen to; jumping from post-punk to dark alt-rock in the span of 30 seconds, ‘Under the Influence’ will appeal to a large slice of listeners – as it should be.
Gearing up for a substantial album release – ‘Modern Misery’ – Minimum Wage explain: “The song then turned into a general rant about our capitalist society and the dangers of valuing the worth of individuals, how the people who are actively fucking the world up never face any consequences for it.”
