millhope Debuts with Kaleidoscopic Gem ‘Illusion’

Often, it’s encouraging to meet creatives willing to develop their own unique style, leaving behind commercial tropes and common stylings in favour of a highly personal aesthetic, one fully expressed through sonic qualities. That’s exactly what millhope just did: the artistic moniker of German producer Thomas Mühlhoff, the project is now unveiling its debut effort, a stunning and kaleidoscopic instrumental piece titled ‘Illusion’. In it, the listener will get familiar with the wonky blend of indie and electronica, delivering a piece that feels polite, elegant yet mesmerising and groovy.

Indie, rock-flavoured drum grooves and guitars join soaring synthetisers and arpeggiators, creating an authentic stream of sonic bliss, so rich and evocative. Crucially, ‘Illusion’ anticipates a larger release expected not long from now, the album ‘Truth&Dare’. If the debut single is anything to go by, we are in for a pretty hypnotising journey.

Delving into the pool of inspirations that helped him get to ‘Illusion’, millhope describes some of the records that particularly helped him: “Tycho’s ‘Dive’, Genesis’ ‘Abacab’, Jonny Buckland’s (Coldplay) guitar lines, and Muse’s synth arpeggios.”
