We at Mesmerized have eagerly awaited the release of ‘Between Lightning And Thunder’. Courtesy of New York City-based singer/songwriter and veteran drummer Miles East, the ten-track offering presents a musical odyssey through the stormy depths of a relationship in turmoil. “Some songs serve as distant beacons of light during the voyager through the darkness, while others are the dark water itself, portending imminent danger or its ever-present threat,” says Miles.
We begin with the elegant opener ‘Better Than Here’, a blissful sonic journey that we previously described as “soothing and evocative’. ‘All Hands on Deck’ then steps up to the plate, and the listener is now fully immersed in East’s exquisitely rich and textured soundscape.
‘Lying Down’ is another gorgeous and heartfelt piece of music, and ‘It’s Ours To Lose’ brings to mind the early work of Samuel Ervin Beam, better known by his stage name Iron & Wine.
Other favourites include ‘Lucky To Be Here Tonight’, the record’s title track, and the profound closer ‘All I Need’. Truthfully, however, it’s an album that deserves to be listened to in its entirety from beginning to end. Each tune has a life and soul of its own, and it’s an album that we’ll no doubt be listening to for many years to come. Superb!
