‘Spirit Away’ conquered our hearts at first listen. How could it not? Boasting incredible poignancy, the record is lyrically and sonically intense, yet incredibly soft and kind, wrapping the listeners in luscious, warm Folk matter, drenched in cinematic textures and anthemic arrangements. The result is a three-minute window packed with emotional energy; misty and friendly at the same time.
Penned by American songster Mike Bass, ‘Spirit Away’ also rejoices from Emma Miller’s evocative, expressive vocals, a fitting contrast with Bass’ darker and sharper tone. We are particularly fond of the many harmonies flooding the song towards the end, building a musical carpet able to soothe any pain or worry. Simply, you’ll let yourself go with Mike’s incredible artistry.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the single, Bass explains: “It is about the reflection that occurs post-relationship. In this case, it’s about me looking in the mirror, seeing the crow’s feet around my eyes, a few grey hairs, and wondering Do I still have what it takes to pursue what I want in life or am I kidding myself?”
