We are rather familiar with Midnight Repost. Writing about a previous single – ‘Blue Eyes’ – we proudly described it as “charming as it sounds, sharing a powerfully uplifting energy that will entice even the most apathetic of listeners out there.” We stand by our words: the British outfit crafts music that’s empowering and vibrant, packed with energy and confidence. ‘Out By Ten’ is the strongest evidence of that. Midnight Repost’s latest EP, the record showcases everything the group is about.
‘Stay’ opens the dances in an anthemic fashion, manifesting an all-out, stadium-ready banger with an evocative flair. ‘Fantasy’ is drier and nostalgic, making hypnotising grooves and funky guitars its perfect match. ‘Come Down’ sees the band widening the sonic pool, allowing for a great deal of electronic elements.
‘The Whistler’ closes the record with tons of softness and emotional songwriting. Written and recorded in Norway, ‘Out By Ten’ is a complete and well-thought-out record, making it an impressive offering from Midnight Repost. As they explain: “It tells the story of a character who is troubled, selfish and arrogant. Eventually, he sheds his egotistical persona and arrives at a destination of peace and self-acceptance.”
