Performing under the moniker of Midnight Prisms, Alicia Beck is a California-based singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and vinyl DJ. Her last release was back in 2022 when she unleashed a scintillating (albeit very short) debut album, and I am now proud to introduce you to ‘Spin Me Again’, her brand new single!
Immediately taking me out of my musical comfort zone, ‘Spin Me Again’ is an upbeat and synth-filled nu-disco smash. Beck’s vocal performance is out of this world, and floats alongside the instrumentals with a mesmerizing grace and hypnotic allure. Bright and colourful, the tune serves as an ode to self-sabotaging behaviours often found in romantic relationships. “It’s about the journey a woman takes to freeing herself from the roles she was conditioned to abide in a patriarchal society,” says Alicia.
‘Spin Me Again’ started life out as a poem until the artist adapted it into a song in 2019. She’s spent the last four years experimenting with the arrangement and fine-tuning every detail, before eventually handing it over to Max Foreman for production. The outcome is quickly turning into a track that I just can’t stop listening to! An unexpected yet beautiful discovery – I can’t wait to hear more from this gifted musician!
