There’s a sort of understated simplicity in ‘Disarm’. Built on conventional indie rock stylings, the track is rather friendly and approachable in its sonic livery; layering jungling guitar riff with punchy drum grooves and fuzzy vocals, the record also reveals a much more nuanced outlook when taking into account its lyricism. Inspired by “the performance art piece ‘Rest Energy’ by Marina Abramovic and her then partner Ulay”, ‘Disarm’ sees Almost delving into the fragile and vulnerable trust involved with every relationship.
Hailing from Michigan, Almost make quite the statement, debuting with a single that’s playful and casual on the surface, but rather mature and complex in its interior. At its helm, the band finds Cameron Bash, singer and lyrics with a keen eye for human nature. ‘Disarm’ is the perfect evidence of that, an electrifying and quirky gem with relevant and relatable lyricism.
Speaking about the writing process behind Disarm’, Bash explains: “When I began writing songs for Almost, I wanted to limit myself. In previous projects I’ve been a part of, l would spend a lot of time layering more instruments than there were people in the band. For Almost, I wanted to do the complete opposite”.
