An artist who’s attracted to sonic quirks as much as the craft of songwriting, New York-based producer and indie experimentalist Michael Burke marks his return to the scene after a five-year musical hiatus with ‘Apophenia’.
Drenched in Daft Punk-esque auto-tuned vocals and distorted percussion work, Michael’s latest track perfectly showcases his ability to fuse pop sensibilities with the unordinary. It’s deeply immersive and hypnotic…A chewy and dreamy kaleidoscope of sounds and colours shifting shapes and emotions.
“The dictionary definition of ‘Apophenia’ is the tendency to perceive a connection or meaningful pattern between unrelated or random things,” says Burke, who concocted the entire tune himself. “I see this concept play out in every aspect of our lives by people of all backgrounds…So I thought I’d toy with that”.
‘Apophenia’ is the second single from Michael Burke’s EP ‘A Strange Mistake to Make’ which was released just a few days ago. If the song is anything to go by, it’s a record that promises more artful and inventive journeys into uncharted sonic territories. Now, please excuse me while I dive straight in!
