At the youthful age of just twenty, Mia Giovina epitomises the term “rising star”. Hailing from New Jersey, the singer/songwriter has quickly garnered a large and adoring fanbase – and with just one listen of her debut EP ‘Without A Note’ – it’s easy to see why she’s capturing so many hearts. Containing five stellar tunes that showcase just how impressive and multifaceted a musician Mia is, it’s a record that I feel we’ll look back on in years to come and label as the cornerstone of Giovina’s career.
The hauntingly beautiful ‘Deathbed’ gets the EP underway with a delicately picked acoustic guitar. Mia’s vocals then make their graceful introduction and, forgive the audacity of this claim, are the most soul-stirring and emotionally resonant I’ve heard in recent months.
‘Fair’ then steps up to the plate with a more upbeat approach, yet somehow maintains the same intimate and gentle sincerity of its predecessor.
The piano-led ‘Losing Time’ is absolutely charming, and the cinematic ‘Porch Light’ is a simply breathtaking piece of music. We close out with the EP’s title track, a song that represents the heart of the record as a whole. This one is for you to discover all on your own. I’m jealous! Enjoy!
