Ophelia’s Eye are certainly not wasting their time: having refreshed their band lineup barely a year ago, the Switzerland-based metal outfit entered the studio back in July, furiously recording a bunch of incredible singles, now collected into the album ‘Catharsis’. There are a few different ways one can look at them. Each track has deep, hard-hitting lyricism mirroring the intricate reality around us (for instance, the title track references the need to keep going pushing for change, even if it seems a helpless endeavour at times); yet, we’d like to take a global look at the album, from which an artistic pattern seems to emerge.
Such a pattern includes the coexistence of melancholic, tender melodies and gloomy, extreme distortion, making for a sound that’s actually quite digestible, especially thanks to Jan Brasser’s near-perfect vocals, constantly oscillating between screams and sung parts. Noé Beivi (Drums), Noah Peier (Guitar), Corinne Ryter (Guitar) and Sandro Suter (Bass) complete the talented lineup. Embracing metalcore as a lifestyle, Ophelia’s Eye manage to deliver one of the most substantial metal records we have heard lately, a telltale sign of a potential glorious future.
Speaking about the creative process behind the record, they explain: “This album marks a new chapter for Ophelia’s Eye – a chapter defined by growth, transformation, and a fierce dedication to addressing the realities of our time. Each track tells a story that delves deep into the human condition, from the paralysis of feeling powerless to the urgency of uniting against a world on the brink of collapse.”
