Introduced by a quirky and uplifting drum groove, ‘Step By Step’ develops as a slightly retro, charming slice of pop extravaganza, one championed by the creative minds of Mery’s Key. The bassline takes center stage during the verses, throwing it back to the 90s (Gary Numan anyone?) before exploding into a full-on arrangement in the catchy choruses.
Led by vocalist Mery Bertòs and bassist Kevin Reginald Cooke, the project flourishes over Mery’s enchanting vocal harmonies, extremely flexible yet evocative and luscious, crowning the whole production with authority and charisma. Matthew Parisi (Shayne Ward, Luna Blue) is the producer helping the duo bring their vision to reality.
It works: such a colourful and empowering musical universe takes solid shape through ‘Step By Step’, a record which speaks highly of Mery’s Key.
