Building on a career that seems to be flourishing into a glorious artistic journey, Mercy’s Cartel is potentially your next R&B obsession. Pursuing a rather personal path, her music finds its perfect home among retro-R&B influences, modern hip-hop stylings, and a strong pop prowess. ‘DO IT’ is the strongest evidence of that. The project’s latest effort, the track is a luscious, care-free and vibey gem, showcasing the London talent’s production and songwriting skills. Mercy’s Cartel’s vocals are also notable, so evocative, dynamic and intense.
Yes, Mercy’s Cartel is that good. As you would expect, the industry has been taking notes, with the British songstress being championed by the likes of Radio 1 and Clash, among others. Notably, she was 1 of 2 black recipients of Abbey Road Studio’s scholarship in Music Production and Audio Engineering.
Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘DO IT’, Mercy’s Cartel explains: “During the first lockdown I met and fell in love with another musician who I felt such a strong attraction and respect for because of his talent. So the hook in ‘DO IT’ is about me seeing him “work in the booth” and getting turned on. I’m using the song to entice him and show him all these unique quirks about me because I was feeling myself and I felt like we could be some type of power couple at the time!”
