There’s something we have always admired in Meraki Trice (and any artists that follows the same path): the willingness to not constrain themselves to the mainstream, or to a pre-defined set of rules and aesthetics. Trice explores his artistry as a highly personal endeavour, finding their own sonic and lyrical direction in an already over-standardized world. That gives the project a very unique and fresh perspective, something we are keen for.
Emerging from North Carolina, Meraki Trice champions a fierce queen character, letting their art shines through. A gifted singer, songwriter and producer, they now return to the music scene with ‘You’ll Regret Me’, a stunning gem with a slightly dark contour. Sonically, we are in electronic territories, although we’d be hard-pressed to categorize it further, being so authentic and original. It all functions in support of Trice’s ethereal and angelic vocals, perhaps creating a meaningful contrast with the more haunting character of the instrumental.
The song begins with traditional tropes associated with post-breakup malaise, but in the second half, it seeks to put the shoe on the other foot, questioning our innate urge to internalize external events beyond our control. A fantastic effort from Meraki Trice – stay tuned.
