Three years on since the release of their debut album ‘Lutra Lutra’, the Cornwall-based husband and wife duo of Chris and Annabelle South make their triumphant return with ‘Meles Meles’. Performing under the moniker Meles Lutra, the pair’s latest record is a remarkable ten-track offering of folky, jazzy, and classical goodness. Inspired by the natural world that surrounds their home, Chris and Annabelle have concocted a hopeful and joyous album that is simply beautiful.
Filled with rich woodwind arrangements, emotive and stirring vocals, and deeply inviting storytelling, ‘Meles Meles’ is such a colourful and eclectic record. You never know what sound lies around the corner, and that’s half the fun of the album. It’s also a showcase of two ridiculously gifted musicians.
“I hope this music will remind people of the wonder and joy of our precious natural world,” says Annabelle. “If it can help people take a few minutes to look around and rejoice in nature, we’ve achieved our aim”.
From tunes that find their inspiration in plants, insects, and birds, to others that pay tribute to the charitable work of places like Buglife and British Divers Marine Life, ‘Meles Meles’ is a truly one of a kind offering. It certainly doesn’t hurt that it’s also a fantastic album!
