Mayfield Park Unveils Shoegaze Album ‘ofminorhighercurrents’

If you have been following us for a while, you’ll know that Mesmerized is pretty keen about material that leaves us…. Well, mesmerized. Shoegaze is a pretty crucial genre for that, and we always appreciate losing ourselves in a sonic and ethereal bath of textures and frequencies. ‘ofminorhighercurrents’ provides exactly that type of listening experience, wrapping us all into a seemingly infinite stream of lush guitar tones, spacious reverbs and cathartic energy.

Penned by Oakland-based creative Mayfield Park (known by day as Ben Tucker), ‘ofminorhighercurrents’ is described as the result of a lingering solo endeavour, the culmination of a nuanced work of sonic research that took place during the pandemic-induced solitude. To be fair, the album’s musical character greatly reflects that: the sense of floating through life with our hearts open, transcending into a higher state of consciousness.

A true DIY records, ‘ofminorhighercurrents’ balances pure shoegaze-style guitars with leftfield electronic beats and some retrowave influences. Speaking about the inspiration behind it, Mayfield Park explains: “The goal of the final product is to move emotions and evoke imagery, but the direction or goal isn’t clear from the start of the writing process. This leaves more space for the listener to experience it and relate to it in their own way.”
