Musical heroes like Matya have the ability to infuse nostalgic and eclectic guitar tones with strong evocative energy, pairing melancholia and delicate melodies with grittier, fierce and punchy tones. It’s a perfect marriage of styles and attitudes, one that allows Matya to share material that feels relatable and friendly while maintaining a certain amount of roughness around the edge.
Take for instance ‘Nobody’s Home’, her latest effort. Introduced by a gentle and spacious guitar arpeggio, the track first showcases Matya’s vocals in a solemn and ethereal fashion, aided by long soundscapes and mellow chords. The intensity steadily grows, eventually jumping into fuzzy and garage-flavoured territories, a true rock anthem for modern feels.
Described as ‘avant-rock’ by the Los Angeles-based talent, ‘Nobody’s Home’ is further confirmation of the blessed creativity enjoyed by Matya. Speaking about the record, she explains: “I aim to create generational anthems for today’s countercultural rebels who go against the grain of the traditional American Dream. ‘Nobody’s Home’ is an invitation to dream through one’s own rose-colored lens.”
