Matthew O’Neill Gears Up for Upcoming Album ‘ANCESTORS WHEEL’

Matthew O’Neill’s manifesto is certainly relevant and curious. Seeking to “decolonize and re-indigenize music”, the American musician and composer runs his record label Underwater Panther Coalition to highlight marginalized voices and indigenous cultures. Such a strong mission informs all of his life, making him perhaps one of the most devoted and committed creatives we have come across so far.

You see, there’s not just music behind Matthew O’Neill’s work. As we are told: “His musical practice is rooted in Indigenous musical ontologies; ways of knowing and participation through sound”. A collective effort, then, placing art back at the core of a community. In a fallen, evil space such as the Western music industry, O’Neill’s vision is certainly relevant and thought-provoking.

‘We’ll Miss You’ is the American talent’s latest effort, a slice of spacious and ethereal musical matter, eclectic and cathartic. The single anticipates a full album, ‘ANCESTORS WHEEL’, expected in September. 50% of its profits will go to supporting the Akwesasne Freedom School.
