Matthew Hayes Jacobs Unveils Latest Intense Single

Being that we have already written about Matthew Hayes Jacobs a few times, you’ll forgive us if we start repeating ourselves. We suspect that won’t happen though, since the American musician and songwriter seems to get better and better with every release, constantly improving his artistic output. ‘Born into The Mass Mind’ confirms such a statement, moving the goalpost towards a band-oriented sonic dimension.

Jacobs’ latest single, the track follows up from ‘What Secrets Lies Ahead’, an acoustic, nuanced nugget that allowed us to catch a glimpse of Matthew’s mellow lyrical flair. ‘Born into The Mass Mind’ takes a slightly different approach, raising the intensity a fair bit and adding an intricate drum part to the mix. Influences are far and wide, but there’s certainly a whiff of Radiohead into the mix – a fact Hayes is adamant about declaring upfront.

A stunning, spacious piano part joins the arrangement too, creating a stark yet functional contrast with Matthew’s raw, raspy vocals, delivering a tale of resilience and independent thinking. The fuzzy guitar solo is the cherry on the cake, greatly enriching the sonic formula. Speaking about the message behind the song, the Woodstock-based creative explains: “I wanted to write a song about the massive cultural conditioning in all societies. For our sanity, we need to wake up from mass mind.”
