Matt Wright Returns with Uplifting, Positive Gem ‘Thank U (Bringing Us Down)’

One thing is certain: Matt Wright is one of the boldest pop acts I have come across, at least recently. I am rather fascinated by the way he’s resurrecting early ‘2000s pop clichés, putting them together in a way that makes them feel fresh again. Couple that with his energetic, empowering lyricism and charming vocals, and the picture is clear; the British artist is a star in the making.

‘Thank U (Bringing Us Down)’ is the perfect evidence of that. Built on bubbly, euphoric synth-driven production with a distinct hyper-pop flair, the record echoes the hard-hitting, punchy energy of beloved groups such as Busted and McFly, but also the catchiness of international outfits such as Hanson. In a way, ‘Thank U (Bringing Us Down)’ turns the clock back to the beginning of the millennium, highlighting its most positive, colourful era.

We are not saying that’s all Matt Wright is: boasting past efforts in rockier territories, the English singer also entertains more evocative, ballad-esque episodes, especially in his upcoming album ‘What To Watch’. From a lyrical standpoint, the single is extremely relatable, seeking to introduce a cathartic take on a failed relationship.

As Wright explains: “It’s all about celebrating the positive side of a monumentally rubbish relationship after it’s come crashing down.” Previously championed by the likes of BBC Introducing and Future Hits Radio, among others, the future looks bright for Matt. We have no doubt he’ll take the opportunity to rise to the top.
