MatAre Shares Glorious Piece ‘Forever Light’

‘Forever Light’ took us by surprise. In a confident and powerful move, the track sounds like a definite step up, a welcome advancement in the MatAre saga. Hailing from Atlanta, US, the musician and singer has been navigating rock and pop stylings with gusto and emotional energy, placing himself in between genres but retaining a relatable character.

Well, ‘Forever Light’ raises the stakes, both in terms of production value – the record sounds better than ever – and in terms of aesthetics. Jumping both feet into post-punk and shoegaze territories, the track is hazy and spacious, quite smokey and blissful. The perfect match for MatAre’s gloomy vocals, here delivered with a sort of alternative, leftfield energy.

He proudly explains: “Although I have only been active for one year as MatAre, I have over 400,000 streams on Spotify alone. I can only explain that by accepting the fact that people connect with my music.” Well done – we can also explain it by the fact that his music is, simply, truly good and interesting. That’s what it takes to build an audience.
