The keen reader might remember talented rapper Mason Moon from a feature we published earlier this year, praising ‘Spellbound Part One’ as “fierce, unique, and deeply captivating”. The foundational elements of Moon’s sonic universe were perfectly on display: from the icy, minimal beats to the obscure yet playful lyricism, passing through the many eerie textures that wrap the sonic matter into an intense and memorable listening experience.
‘VERTIGO’ seems to confirm it all. Mason Moon’s latest effort, the single pushes the Melbourne-based creative into even grittier territories, delivering a crepuscular, cathartic piece that’s incredibly dark and raw. This time around, Mason makes it a point to develop the right visual aesthetics, an endeavour that results in a striking, vibrant music video.
Built over monochrome filters and alternative editing techniques, the footage seeks to represent the young Australian in a more authentic light, something Moon is truly passionate about. As he explains: “I wanted this video to highlight me at my lowest, then transitioning into meeting my ideal self – hence why the video starts with me at a party (wasting my time) and ends with that version of myself meeting the ‘Made Me’ – that’s the guy onstage at the final act.”
