Marshwello’s Debut Album ‘Castaways’ is Ambient and Inventive

It truly seems like we’re witnessing a remarkable era for debut albums at the moment! Last month, Isle of Wight-based singer/songwriter and producer Graham Smith, who performs under the moniker of Marshwello, released his debut album ‘Castaways’. An ambient, dreamy, and at times almost trippy adventure, it’s another record that I’ve fallen rather deeply for. “I use a synthesizer, a drum kit, sample loops, and a bit of imagination,” says Smith. His modesty is commendable, but the sonic landscapes that he creates are nothing short of extraordinary.

Citing Michael Jackson as his biggest inspiration, along with heavyweight electronic acts like Fatboy Slim and The Chemical Brothers, Marshwello isn’t afraid to get a little experimental and avant-garde. All you have to do is look to tracks like ‘Feel The Surge’ and ‘No Yes’ to know what I mean. The thing is…that’s what instantly drew me into ‘Castaways’. Its uniqueness and unconventionality.

At forty-eight years of age, Marshwello is just getting his music career started. He’s already released a string of singles and is now the proud parent of a scintillating debut album. I can’t wait to dive further into his music and, at the same time, look forward to hearing what he produces next!
