A sharp record, with lots of dark corners and eclectic references, making for a listening experience that’s surprising and intense. ‘Tell Me Again’ is introduced by a fuzzy bass riff, only to then swirl in favours of playful synth stabs, then again jumping into math rock guitar prowess. That’s what we mean by ‘sharp record’; one can never fully catch its essence, and it is a good thing, especially nowadays.
Built on slow-pace, bouncy rock matter, ‘Tell Me Again’ flourishes on Maky Wildtype’s limitless imagination and raw, intense vocal tone, crowning the track with his charisma and confidence. Any alt and metal fan should feel at home in such settings, even during the vocoder-powered breakdown in the bridge, then connecting to once again an all-out, fierce outro.
The record anticipates Wildtype’s upcoming album, ‘If Destroyed Still True’, expected for later this year. Speaking about the inspiration behind the single, the Edinburgh-based songster explains: “It tries and fails to reconcile an aspirational ‘try to be kind’ mentality in the face of truly unrepentant narcissism”.
