Mark Vennis & Different Place Share New Single ‘Small Town Vampire’

A track that could be defined as rough around the edges; with its gritty vocals and sleazy guitar tones, ‘Small Town Vampire’ is nonetheless incredibly charming and quirky. Released on Halloween day, the record embodies that same sense of eeriness and playful darkness. Built over punk and new wave references, the single moves on a rather minimal arrangement, with punchy drums and simple yet hard-hitting guitar riffing, taking the listener into an evocative sonic journey delivered with panache and authenticity.

Vennis’ vocals seal the deal, with their husky, raw character that helps facilitate a rather tongue-in-cheek and rebellious lyricism. It works well with the sonic background, creating an alluring and slightly vintage brand of punk renaissance. Based in Petersfield, England, Mark Vennis & Different Place have been showcasing their quality and sublime musical taste through a series of records released in the past few years, and we are confident they’ll not be stopping anytime soon.

Speaking about the lyricism behind the track, the group explain: “‘Small Town Vampire’ is about the big fish in a small pond. Older now, but the arrogance is still there. Hunting after young blood to make them look, if not feel, youthful. We all know the type.”
