This is a story of dedication, passion, and willingness to learn. Following up on years of musical practice and songwriting curiosity, German talent Mariele Jankowski unveils her debut effort, a folk-flavoured gem with anthemic tones and epic tinges. ‘The Long Song of Mary Green’ is Jankowski’s storytelling at its best: in it, the listener will be able to trace her familiarity with poems, novels and popular tradition, allowing Mariele to deliver engaging and meaningful songs drenched in culture and history.
Sonically, ‘The Long Song of Mary Green’ could be seen as an original blend of medieval’s troubadour-style pieces and Tap Dance exuberance, coming together to deliver a pretty unique and original offering, while keeping a classic, relatable outlook. Perhaps a record that would work well in saloons, or – if we still had them – opulent banquets in old European castles.
Emerging from the far west of Germany, Mariele Jankowski is a country girl with international flair, built up during her education years. She taught herself the drums, the piano, the guitar, and even the banjo, honing her skills as a multi-instrumentalist and expanding her creative horizons. Learning English allowed her to expand her cultural horizons, marking the start of a creative journey that would end up with ‘The Long Song of Mary Green’.
