Maria Weissman Releases Stunning New Piece with ‘The Poet’

‘The Poet’ is truly more than just a song…It’s a touching tribute and heartfelt collaboration between a musician and her grandfather. Courtesy of Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter Maria Weissman and a poem written by her grandfather Norman, (who studied under Robert Frost) ‘The Poet’ is a rich, poignant, and utterly beautiful piece of music.

With a runtime of only one minute and twenty-four seconds, its brevity only enhances its emotional depth. Indeed, time isn’t a measure of impact, and ‘The Poet’ proves that even the shortest moments can hold a lifetime of sentiment.

Featuring just a piano and Maria’s exceptional vocal prowess, it’s a hauntingly intimate performance – and one that was played to Norman Weissman as he transitioned from this life into the next.

“All creative endeavours are these bits of beauty that are really just placeholders and rough approximations for the love and connection we all so universally value,” says Maria. “Ultimately, it’s nothing in comparison to a warm hug from the person behind the inspiration”.

When your great-grandfather was the celebrated painter, etcher, printmaker, and art critic Arthur Millier, and your grandfather was a famous writer, director, and producer, Maria’s path to artistic expression felt almost predestined. Nonetheless, her music reflects both a deep respect for her heritage and a fearless pursuit of her own artistic path.
