I’ll be honest with you…it’s been a while since I’ve heard a tune dedicated to the humble sandwich. Not since Frank Zappa’s ‘This Town is a Sealed Tuna Sandwich’ I believe. Was that actually about sandwiches? Apologies – I’m getting sidetracked (and hungry). Marcus Smith is a rapper, multi-instrumentalist, and singer/songwriter from Cleveland, Ohio. Ten years ago, while still a member of the hip-hop act Black & Broke, a tune called ‘Sandwiches’ was born. Smith is now re-releasing the classic for its ten-year anniversary and we are very much down with that!
Marcus’ eclectic blend of rock, rap, and comedy all come to the fore on ‘Sandwiches’, and it’s this unique and dynamic fusion that sets him apart from the rest. “This single is all about fun,” he says. When last did you hear that from an artist? The thing with Smith is…he has the chops to back it up!
With his infectious energy and clever wordplay, Marcus Smith’s ‘Sandwiches’ is a welcome reminder that music doesn’t always have to take itself too seriously. The track’s playful lyrics and catchy hooks make it impossible not to bob your head and smile along.
