Marc Soucy might perhaps be a bit too experienced to tag his music with the ‘vaporwave’ label, but to be honest, his latest release is pretty much it. Built over digital and nostalgic soundscapes, tropical tones and a healthy amount of ‘lounge-style’ field recordings, his latest record ‘PTSD: Paris-Tokyo Suborbital Departures’ is as escapist and hazy as it could, wrapping the listeners in an otherworldly, dreamy and feverish sonic journey.
Packed with drones and noisy textures, the track features announcements from a wide variety of lounges all over the world, all drenched in reverb and delays. This gives the whole piece a rather ‘spacious’ character, something that’s reflected in the expansive nature of the record. The single is part of a 12-part series called ‘STIR: Soundscapes Evoking Realities Only Imagined’. It will be released gradually over the next few months.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the track, Soucy explains: “My music is intended to elicit a series of emotions and hopefully the construct of “stories”, either in your own imagination, or as provided by a music video. These songs will have accompanying videos. …Conceptually there is a world / global music component as well as a sci-fi or surrealism aspect to the project.”
