We recently wrote about Marble Raft‘s long-awaited album ‘Dear Infrastructure’, a nugget of blissful shoegaze and ethereal wonders that perfectly suited the Swedish duo’s “expansive, imaginative and buoyant artistic vision”. We stand by our words, and frankly, we are always incredibly impressed by the pair’s strong imagery, something they reiterate in their latest single ‘Here in Your Backyard’.
Taken from the aforementioned album, the piece is absolutely luscious and floaty, wrapping listeners in spacious vocals and limitless, angelic textures. It’s a triumph of retro shoegaze and bold dream pop, a slice of escapism in an otherwise gloomy reality. Recounting “a motley crew gathering in a neighbourhood of an eerie metropolis”, ‘Here in Your Backyard’ now includes a euphoric video brimming with vintage footage and vibrant visuals, courtesy of Jonna Laurin.
Once again, Olle Söderström and Gabrielle Werme Baker find fertile ground for artistic catharsis and fringe-pop songwriting elegance, a precious formula making the project a wonderful discovery for any keen shoegaze and dream-pop lover.
