Mara Liddle Returns with Bright Gem ‘All Over The Place’

A familiar face on our blog, Mara Liddle is part of the new pop front, a wave of creatives shuffling what we know about ‘popular’ music, evolving its sonic references and common lyricism. Not just hyperpop, it’s much more: an eclectic blend of dance and jungle vibes next to sweet melodies and relatable imagery. ‘All Over The Place’ is the perfect evidence of that, a charming and bright slice of bucolic tapestries and slick beats, here delivered with elegant and hypnotising energy by Liddle herself.

We are a big fan of the jungle/garage grooves in the breakdown, putting the project in line with other contemporary icons such as Charli XCX and Pinkpantheress. Overall, the record shares a certain ‘heavenly’ quality, through a poised and controlled production that makes it easy for the listeners to fully immerse themselves in it.

Mara’s vocals are the highlight though, exploring the struggles of managing life after the pandemic, including friends and relationships. Her angelic tone makes for a stark contrast between her casual, relaxed delivery and the painful nature of the song’s themes. As Liddle explains: “All Over The Place is about trying to get to grips with life. It’s about life during and after lockdown and the challenges and rewards that came with it, about finishing university and not knowing what comes next, about family relationships changing as you grow older and less dependent.”
