We celebrated Mara Liddle’s quirky and playful hyperpop brand numerous times this year. It’s been a wild ride, especially since her music is incredibly unique and cathartic. Now, the British visionary proudly unveils her full EP, ‘STALEMATE, an impressive body of work laced with experimental tones and glitchy sound designs. Taking cues from contemporary staples such as Pinkpantheress and Charli XCX, among others, Liddle builds her own sonic universe, a place where she’s free to explore her melting pot of influences and lyrical inspirations.
From cute and shiny PC Music homages to wider and punchier electro gems: there’s a strong share of eclecticism in the record, showcasing Mara’s wide artistry. Eventually, it all serves a higher purpose, enabling Liddle’s ethereal and gentle vocals, delivered with charisma and intentional kindness.
‘Be Alone’ is one of the brand new tracks in ‘STALEMATE’, a nugget of skinny dance euphoria and high-pitched synth stabs, all coming together into a unique and highly hypnotising musical effort. A highly introspective EP, the release delves into Liddle’s personal experiences and struggles. As she explains: “It chronicles life as a young woman in the modern age”.
