manukahunney Shares New Single ‘Moved On Up’

Northern Ireland’s own rising talent, manukahunney, is ready to take the music scene by storm with the release of her latest EP, ‘My Dark Side’. Luckily, we do get a preview, in the form of a luscious and elegant single, ‘Moved on Up’, a stunning gem showcasing a unique sound that is a departure from the project’s usual style, and for good reason. Siobhan – the creative human behind the project – faced a challenge when creating the track, as she was forced to use different musicians due to unforeseen circumstances. This resulted in a step into the unknown for the project, as she started experimenting with an eclectic blend of RnB, Jazz and modern elements, all at the service of her poetic lyrics about self-discovery and personal growth, especially in response to a broken relationship.

As an older black woman emerging as an artist in her own right, manukahunney is on a mission to raise the profile of music of black origins in Northern Ireland and beyond. With a music scene that is still in its infancy, she hopes to reach new audiences both at home and internationally, while developing a culture around it.

‘Moved on Up’ is as kaleidoscopic as it could be: on one side, we find manukahunney’s elegant and evocative vocals, fully at home in RnB settings. On the other hand, the track’s eclectic production flourishes on its own, placing the track in slightly experimental territories. That’s exactly what we appreciate most about the project, the ability to really push boundaries and explore new sounds while still honouring the roots of black music.
