He’s back, once again making our harsh world a better place with pure, unfiltered artistry. There was a reason if we described one of his past records as a “rich and warm work of art” (about ‘The Joy of Giving Up’). Man With A Corduroy Heart possesses the ability to describe the physical world with dreamy metaphors, a feat that often pushes the listener towards enlightened reflection and personal growth. Known for his eclectic and playful folk-pop stylings, the British talent now returns with his latest effort, a direct commentary on his country’s problematic political landscape.
‘Suella De Vil’ is a much darker offering, both lyrically and sonically. Built over spacious drones, intimate guitars and a light, repetitive beat, the track functions as a dramatic lullaby, exuding a soothing character that’s merely a decoy; given its theme – a rebellious stance against Suella Braverman, one of the UK’s most divisive political figures – ‘Suella De Vil’ would fit a rather depressing scenario, and the fact that Man With A Corduroy Heart can make it sound so effortless speaks volumes about his musical prowess.
As he explains: “I had no intention of doing a political song at all. I don’t really want to fight hate with hate, so I thought I’d just tickle the monster with this song instead.”
