Returning to the music scene after a short hiatus, Malena Boccadoro showcases her artistic growth in new single ‘Dead Sea’. Shifting from a pop singer-songwriter act (debut ‘Novocaine’, 2020) to a more nuanced and eclectic multi-genre outlook, the Florida-based talent seems to have found renowned inspiration, pushing the boundaries of musical research even further. ‘Dead Sea’ is the strongest evidence of that: built on a saturated electronic tapestry of bouncy beats and cinematic soundscapes, the record feels intimate yet fierce, evocative yet uplifting.
Channelling commercial tropes – pitched-up vocals, tropical rhythms – against more obscure, unique songwriting features, the track seems to contrast the two conflicting sides of Boccadoro’s creativity. On one side, the brightness of her Argentinian roots (she was in fact born in Buenos Aires) and on the other, the relatability and poignancy of contemporary American acts (think Billie Eilish).
A majestic release from Boccadoro, who once again confirms herself as an ever-changing musical wonder. We appreciate it – stay tuned.
