The keen reader will remember LA pop sensation Madison Deaver from an article we did last year, for her EP ‘Tongue Tied’. Championing a friendly brand of pop-rock and pop-punk, the American talent has caught the attention of industry and media actors far and wide, thanks to her unapologetic, fierce attitude and incredible vocal tone.
Since then, the American creative took a brief break, only to re-appear earlier this summer with the fuzzy, gritty power anthem ‘Denim’. What a comeback that was! If there’s one thing certain, is that Deaver is visibly stepping up her career, opening the floodgates for worldwide recognition. ‘Wicked’ is her latest effort, and continues on her glorious streak although with a mellower approach.
Co-written with Una Jensen, the record combines energy and poignancy, creating an empowering gem which exudes pop sensibilities in its piano parts and punk character in its drum beats. The result is extraordinaire: guitars are subtle, making it a track for a wider listening audience. The chorus is a reminder of Deaver’s vocal qualities, enriched by a light saturation on them. Delivering falsetto lines next to evocative and deeper sections, she’s back in full force, and here to stay.
