Thanks to my fellow writing partner in crime Gabriel, Toronto-based indie-rock act Madame Psychosis has become a huge favourite of mine this year. Knowing that an album titled ‘MP3’ was in the works, I’ve been patiently waiting to hear the record in all its glory. And today is the day my friends! Let’s plunge in, shall we?
The short piano-driven ‘I’ll Go’ serves as the album opener, and instantly sets a reflective and melodic tone before seamlessly transitioning into the laidback intro of ‘Anywhere With You’. A heartfelt piece that deals with self-growth and authenticity, it smoothly jumps between quiet moments and more anthemic bursts.
‘Lucky’, simply put, is a dynamic and infectious little number that’s impossible not to fall in love with, while ‘Hopeless’ showcases a soulful, almost gospel side to Michelle Mondesir’s vocals that’s just superb.
‘Charlie’s Story’ was a tune we previously described as featuring “sharp storytelling set against an electrifying pop-rock backdrop and a cascade of evocative vocals”. We stand by our words – it’s a cracking track.
Other personal favourites include ‘Foxtail’ and ‘Vulnerability’ but, truthfully, ‘MP3’ is a record you need to experience for yourself. Trust me, it’s worth it!
