One goal: releasing two albums in 2022. Challenge level: Impressive. Outcome: successful.
Yes, Luna Waves manages to release two albums in a year, showcasing not only his dedication to his craft, but also the creative inspiration he’s been blessed with. Rob Muir – the human behind the project – is bound to be quite happy with his artistic performance this year, especially given the depth of field that his music navigates. You see, Luna Waves has always stood for the middle ground, the point of encounter between alt, psych rock and more dreamy and melodious tones.
Following up on the album released back in March, ‘Blood Moon’, Muir now unveils ‘Bruised Gold’, a shorter yet still extensive collection of songs exploring a slightly darker and mellower side than its predecessor.
Opening with ‘Talisman’, the record instantly wraps the listener with Luna Waves’ signature blend of psych rock and dream pop, resembling an exciting blend between Tame Impala and George Clanton. ‘Lemondaze Slow Burn’ is a more peculiar offering, overcharging its ethereal character with sampled vocals and spacious reverbs. Follower ‘Out of Phase’ breaks the rhythms, reminding us of late-stage Oasis and more conventional Brit-pop. ‘Street Hawkers’ supercharges its electronic elements. From here, it’s all familiar territory: Lunar Waves knows how to make a record you’ll love. We have evidence, we love it.
