What does it take to build an exciting rock single? Attitude, power and charisma. British talents Paytron Saint fulfil all the requirements, delivering a sound that’s tough and punchy and songwriting that’s relatable and friendly. The loyal reader will remember a past feature we did for them, on the occasion of the release of their single ‘Boat’. At the time, we described the track as “moving the sound towards a mellower direction, borrowing indie grooves while still retaining a prominent grunge identity”. Well, that statement is still relevant, thanks to ‘Possibly Honest’ the group’s latest record.
In it, the Amber Valley natives express their desire to focus on the simple things, escaping the constant noise and stress of our modern society. They do so quite exceptionally, thanks to a dazzling and uplifting three-minute-long banger which seems to purify the listener with its electrifying musical force. Perhaps we get a glimpse of Foo Fighters, since ‘Possibly Honest’ differs from its predecessor by a more gritty and alt-rock-oriented sound.
Nevertheless, the four Belper rockers still shine in their songwriting, always on point and perfectly interpreted by Nick Glyn-Davies’ near-perfect vocals. Joel Glyn-Davies, Dean Lloyd and Dan Brigstock complete a very talented line-up.
Overall, a welcome return from Paytron Saint, slowly showcasing themselves as one of the best newcomers in the scene. Recommended!
