Approaching electronica nowadays can often feel disorienting. The genre has spun out in a myriad of directions, exploring pretty much every possible sonic avenue. Although, if one pays attention, it is still possible to spot solitary musical heroes, making it their mission to innovate and push the boundaries of electronica forward. They do so thanks to inspired eclecticism underlying their work.
One of those artistic paladins is Marcel Moliner, Catalan music producer based in Edinburgh, going by the name of LOOKING TIGERS. An exceptionally talented individual, he’s not only a gifted sonic wizard but also a skilled multi-instrumentalist. It is perhaps the reason he’s able to approach his composition with such a fresh and refined outlook. Take for instance ‘They’re Coming’, the project’s latest effort. Described as a slow-paced techno release, we’d argue it is so much more. Dark synthesised matter meets ethnic and organic percussions, building hypnotising loops that gradually wrap the listener in introspective meditation. A truly majestic record.
‘They’re Coming’ occasionally echoes a tiger roaring, described as a metaphor for the ineluctable character of mother nature. You can’t escape her. As LOOKING TIGERS explains: “The song is an invitation to unleash your inner dancer, accompanied by tiger roars that provide a truly primal experience. It tells the story of nature reclaiming its rightful place in an increasingly modernized landscape.”
