One of the latest Shoegaze outfits to emerge from the British capital, Doris is packed with character and creative flair, channelling the best the genre has to offer while blending it with slick indie influences and a certain emotional charge. ‘Storm Doris’ is their debut EP – that’s right, they just releases a conspicuous collection of tracks as their first record, a feature that makes them quite peculiar in the current music landscape. Comprising seven wonderful pieces, ‘Storm Doris’ balances reflection and escapism, offering a dreamy and bucolic outlook for the keen listeners.
Describing themselves as “born out of a stormy night in London”, the group seem to have borrowed a page out of the shoegaze manual, pairing shimmering, spacious and cosmic guitars with lighter, ethereal and evocative female vocals. It’s a formula that’s always worked – and it’s working here again.
‘Storm Doris’ is the biggest evidence of it: the record flows fast, exhibiting quite a hypnotising character that instantly attracts the listener into the British outfit’s mesmerising universe. Recorded in an old army bunker in the Cotswold by producer Hugh Fielding, there’s no doubt it’s only the first instalment of a long and sapient journey.
