Lolita Terrorist Sounds Unveil Full Album ‘St. Lola’

We have already explained why “despite their doom and gloom name, Lolita Terrorist Sounds are actually a positive force for all of us”. Writing about their recent effort ‘St. Lola’, we had the pleasure of delving into the project’s transformative, mesmerising artistic universe, an experience that has enriched our musical awareness. Now, the Berlin-based trailblazer returns with their latest effort, ‘St. Lola’ the album. In it, Lolita Terrorist Sounds consolidate what’s a forward-thinking, avant-garde and noise sonic formula.

Honestly, it’s an intense listening piece, and it should be. Maurizio Vitale – the human behind the project – is adamant about the aesthetic and nuanced meaning behind it, closely tied to their fierce Queerness and reflective consciousness. Speaking about it, they explain: “I used a limited amount of old microphones and analogue gear to capture and preserve the instinctive roughness of the music. It was more about capturing the magic of the moment and the historical place where the songs were conceived rather than making a polished record.”

This ‘historical place’ is a former secret service building in East Berlin, where the record was made in its entirety, enlisting the help of a pretty legendary team of collaborators, including Swans lap-steel guitar hero Kristof Hahn and avant-garde legend Bob Rutman. ‘Mind The Gap’ takes the lead single spot, also providing a rather macabre and evocative music video.
